Root & Raid

Root & Raid rig

A personal command-line tool for running a live streaming rig on Linux.

Root & Raid rig is a set of scripts that operate one person's streaming setup — a Linux desktop running OBS Studio, a Stream Deck, and an ATEM switcher. It is used by its author to stream gameplay to YouTube and Twitch.

What it does

This is not a product. There is no signup, no hosted service and no other users. It runs on one machine, from a terminal, and acts only on the accounts belonging to the person running it.

Why it needs Google account access

A YouTube live broadcast cannot be created without an authorised request to the YouTube Data API. The tool asks for access to the operator's own YouTube channel so it can create that broadcast and set its metadata, replacing about five minutes of manual work in YouTube Studio before every stream.

It requests one scope, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube, and uses it only for the actions listed above. See the privacy policy for exactly what is stored and where.

Where it runs

Fedora Linux with KDE Plasma on Wayland, OBS Studio, Bitfocus Companion, and Node.js. The source is kept in a private repository; it is not distributed.
